New Job - Fort Collins, CO

Colorado State University
Legal Counsel - Fort Collins, CO

Student Legal Services seeks an experienced attorney who would delight in working with a dedicated, collaborative team in a small law office serving Colorado State University students and located in the hub of campus, the newly remodeled Lory Student Center. The office is highly popular with students for helping them resolve legal issues that largely stem from coming of age mistakes, as well as simple inexperience navigating social, business and government interactions. An ideal candidate would have broad experience in landlord-tenant, criminal defense and record sealing, and a variety of civil matters. The office is staffed with three attorneys, an office manager/paralegal and four student assistants. The office uses a model that empowers students to help themselves, which places the attorney in the dual role of lawyer and educator. Ordinarily, the attorneys do not provide court representation. Student Legal Services attorneys also collaborate with campus and city partners in a variety of roles. They regularly speak to student groups and classes on topics including alcohol laws for the brewing science major, wills and advance directives, legal aspects of business start up, and handling police contacts. Student Legal Services is a department within the Division of Student Affairs, a vibrant division of the university that provides a wide array of services and programs to support students in their development as active learners, successful graduates and engaged global citizens.
